Suspension is a system of connecting the vehicles upper body to its wheels and allows for fluid and relative motion for a smooth ride. This is collectively called as the suspension system. Suspensions are different based on the need and requirements of the vehicle. Common passenger cars use strut with single shock absorber, a heavy loaded truck uses leaf springs and pushrod suspension for high speed in case of formulas one cars where comfort is secondary.
Smooth movement of the vehicle along the road prevents the pre-maturing of tires too. Worn suspension can reduce the whole stability of the vehicle resulting in less overall performance.
